From a Chevrolet commercial to Swingers

Vaughn began acting in 1988, as a teenager, in a Chevrolet commercial, and had a side role in Rudy in 1993. [1] His breakthrough came with Swingers (1996), and he went on to lead comedies including Dodgeball, Starsky & Hutch and Wedding Crashers. [7][1] His later work includes the dramas Hacksaw Ridge (2016) and Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017). [7]

Las Vegas runs through that career. Card Player noted that scenes from both Swingers and Dodgeball were shot in the city, and Vaughn himself recalled of Dodgeball: “we shot that in Vegas, we got to come here and play.” [5][4]

First WSOP appearance: the 2021 Main Event final table

Vaughn’s first official WSOP role came in November 2021, at the end of the series held at the Rio in Las Vegas. He gave the traditional “Shuffle Up and Deal” announcement that opened the final table of the 2021 Main Event. [1][3] On November 17, 2021, Caesars Entertainment announced that the 53rd WSOP would move to Bally’s Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas from May 31 to July 19, 2022, after 17 years at the Rio, and that Vaughn would serve as the official celebrity Master of Ceremonies. [2] WSOP Senior Vice President Ty Stewart said the series was “excited to have the iconic Vince Vaughn usher in a new era of WSOP.” [2]

One hand in the Poker Hall of Fame Bounty

The day after the final table announcement, Vaughn played his first WSOP bracelet event: Event #79, the $1,979 Poker Hall of Fame Bounty, in which every Hall of Famer in the field carried a bounty. Jack Effel revealed that the WSOP had also put a $10,000 bounty on Vaughn. [3] Hall of Famers in the field chatted with him, and PokerNews reported Daniel Negreanu’s advice: “Do not try to bluff these people.” [3]

Vaughn folded his first hands, sat out a level and came back in Level 8. He limped with ace-jack from middle position, and when Kunal Patni raised from the big blind, Vaughn moved all in for about 25,000 chips. Patni called with queen-jack of hearts. Vaughn was a 67.55% favorite before the flop, but the queen on the flop paired Patni, and the turn and river did not help. [3] Patni said “Sorry,” and Vaughn answered: “No worries, good suck out.” PokerNews summed up the debut as one hand that ended in a bad beat. [3]

Master of Ceremonies of the 2022 WSOP

When his appointment was announced, Vaughn said in a statement: “I have such a strong connection to Las Vegas and am honored to be selected as the Master of Ceremonies for what is set to be the most anticipated World Series of Poker tournament ever. Poker has long been one of my favorite sports, so to be a part of something as historic as the WSOP finally moving to the Strip is an absolute dream. Vegas Baby, Vegas!” [2]

He made his appearance at the 2022 series on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, Day 1d, the fourth and final starting flight of the $10,000 Main Event. Dressed in a Caesar costume, he unveiled the bracelet for the 2022 Main Event champion and gave the “Shuffle Up and Deal” announcement for the Day 1d field. [4][5] Speaking to the media afterwards, he said he loves poker and named Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey and Phil Hellmuth as his favorite players. [4][5]

Vince Vaughn vs. The Champions

In November 2022 the WSOP.com online poker site launched a promotion built around Vaughn: he played separate heads-up matches against three Main Event champions, Phil Hellmuth (1989), Koray Aldemir (2021) and Joe Cada (2009), who held 21 WSOP bracelets between them. [6] Players on WSOP.com in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Michigan predicted the winner of one match each, with promo code “VINCE” for Vaughn or “CHAMP” for his opponent, and those who picked correctly entered a freeroll for a seat in the 2023 WSOP Main Event. [6] The WSOP described the matches as super turbos and the WSOP published the reveals on its YouTube channel on November 22, December 6 and December 20, 2022. [8][6]
