Inside the Asian Edition 2026

From isolated rulings to shared standards

The Summit

In June 2026, the Poker Tournament Directors Association approved its new rules at TDA Summit XII in Las Vegas, with a record 176 members from 41 countries. Four months later, the Poker TDA + WPF Continental Summit returned to Taipei to bring those rules to the floors of Asia.

The second Asian Edition was held on October 20, 2026 at Asia Poker Arena, during the TMTC 2026 festival, organized by the World Poker Federation and the TDA in partnership with the Asian Poker Sports Association (APSA). It was built as a half-day working panel for tournament directors, floor staff and operators, with one goal: practical, consistent standards that work across Asia's diverse tournament environments.

AlignClarify where regional practice can converge.
TestPressure-test procedures against real floor scenarios.
ShapeCapture open questions for future TDA guidance.

One Path for Every Topic

01CaseWhat happened?

04DirectionWhere is common ground?

Each topic was set up to end with the consensus reached, the open questions, an owner and the next action.

The agenda

15 Topics on the Table

01

Electronic Devices & Smart Glasses

Where assistance ends and enforceable integrity begins: passive devices, restrictions during a live hand, and the floor's authority to inspect.

02

Table Talk, Abuse & Hate Speech

A firm line between table energy, strategic speech, harassment and discriminatory abuse, with a player conduct standard that works across languages and cultures.

03

All-In & One Chip Behind

Declarations that are visible, audible and verified by the dealer, and what is binding when one chip stays behind.

04

Out-of-Turn Action Heads-Up

A repeatable path between intent, changed action and substantial action.

05

Verbal Statements at Showdown

Rule 13 in a heads-up showdown: the first player announces fold and throws the hand away. Dead or live?

06

Dealer Button Placement

The button does not belong to the seat, and can be moved to deal in the most players.

07

Big Blind Ante: Simultaneous Busts

Stacks are compared after the ante is posted, and the larger stack receives the higher prize.

08

Raising the Blinds

Dealers may now raise the blinds when the level changes, with the floor still announcing it.

09

Chip Stacks of 20

Upgraded from recommended procedure to rule, with rollout and dealer training to plan.

10

Moving Players with Chips

Players carrying chips go directly to their new seat, including alternates and table breaks.

11

Breaking Tables

Keeping movement random, fast and auditable: seat cards, software and balancing exceptions.

12

Chip Penalties vs Orbit Penalties

Which sanction is clearer, fairer and easier to apply consistently, and a ladder from warning to disqualification.

13

Mixed Games

Extending standards beyond Hold'em: exposed cards outside the initial deal and the reshuffle in draw games.

14

Late Registration

Closing registration by clock level, stack depth, field percentage or event category.

15

Open Floor

Recurring rulings, regional inconsistencies and priorities brought by the directors in the room.

In focus

Chip Penalties vs Orbit Penalties

Chip penalties are immediate, proportional and visible. Orbit penalties are familiar, but their impact changes with table speed and format. The agenda put forward a ladder for discussion that links each level of offense to both.

LevelChip penaltyOrbit equivalentExamples
Minor0.5 BB1 handOut-of-turn action preflop, a first procedural offense
Medium1 BB3 handsDiscussing a live hand, out-of-turn action postflop, repeated stalling
Major2.5 BB1 roundDodging blinds, exposing cards with action pending, abusive behavior
Severe5 BB2 roundsSerious misconduct, deliberate rule violations
Extreme10+ BB or DQ3+ roundsCollusion, cheating, threats

Repeat offenses move up one level. Penalties that take a player away from the table are decided only by the Head TD.
