Background

Bilzerian was born in Tampa, Florida. PokerNews describes him as a businessman and recreational poker player, and notes that his wider fame has more to do with his social media presence than with his poker career. [1]

The 2009 WSOP Main Event

Bilzerian’s one recorded tournament cash came in the 2009 WSOP $10,000 Main Event, which drew a starting field of 6,494 players and was eventually won by Joe Cada, who beat Darvin Moon heads-up. [5]

On July 11, 2009, the day the money bubble burst with 648 places paid and a minimum cash of $21,365, PokerNews reported that a short-stacked “Dan Bilzerian of Tampa, Florida” doubled through from his 68,000 starting stack and then went on a rush to move among the day’s leaders early in the second level. [4]

He reached Day 6, one of 185 players left, alongside his brother Adam. There he moved all in with about 30 big blinds holding ace-six and was called by Jonathan Tamayo’s pocket tens. The board ran nine, king, three, jack, king, and Bilzerian was eliminated in 180th place. [3] The finish paid $36,626. [2]

Cash game claims

Most of what is said about Bilzerian’s poker winnings comes from Bilzerian himself. PokerNews wrote in 2020 that he has “repeatedly claimed” to have won millions of dollars in private, very high-stakes cash games, but that nobody has been able to substantiate this. [6] In 2024 PokerNews reported that he has claimed to have won more than $50 million in his lifetime playing private games against celebrities and billionaires, adding that some dispute the figure because there is no way to verify the results. [8]

He has also said that he pioneered the loose-aggressive (LAG) style of play, a claim PokerNews says numerous professionals have rejected. [1] On the True Geordie Podcast he said he likes people to think he is “a rich idiot” so that he can take their money at the table. [6]

Online poker and GGPoker

In August 2020 PokerNews reported that Bilzerian had entered Event #54 of the WSOP Online series on GGPoker, the $10,000 Heads Up No Limit Hold’em Championship. [6]

On December 3, 2020, GGPoker announced him as a brand ambassador and marked his 40th birthday with a $100,000 freeroll on December 7. Fellow ambassador Daniel Negreanu was quoted as saying that Bilzerian “has won millions in cash games”, a statement the announcement did not verify. [7] PokerNews now lists him as a former GGPoker ambassador; he left the site in 2022. [1]

Hustler Casino Live, 2024

In June 2024 Bilzerian joined a celebrity cash game on the Hustler Casino Live stream in Los Angeles, played at $50/$100 blinds with a $10,000 minimum buy-in, although co-owner Ryan Feldman said he expected every player to buy in for at least $50,000. The line-up included Neymar, Jimmy Butler, Ninja, Ryan Garcia, Chris Eubank Jr. and Alan Keating. [8] PokerNews described it as his first public poker game appearance in years; he finished the session with a $24,000 win after being up more than $150,000 at one point. [9]

The 2024 WSOP Main Event

A few weeks later he played Day 1c of the 2024 WSOP $10,000 Main Event and lasted two hands. In the first he called a three-bet from Derek Reid and fired on every street with ten-eight, but Reid called him down with pocket aces. In the second he moved all in from the big blind for around 4,000 with queen-five against Jonathan Dwek’s ace-jack, and Dwek made a flush.
