Excellent news for poker came from Latin America. After a long effort, a new federation recognized our discipline as a sport.
In December 2022, the International Mind Sports Association (IMSA) unanimously accepted the World Poker Federation (WPF) membership, the same as other sports like chess.
The World Poker Federation was created under the leadership of Brazilian (Confederación Brasileira de Texas Hold’em) and Argentine (Instituto Argentino de Poker Deportivo) associations, along with the Confederación Panamericana de Poker Deportivo (CPPD).
The president of the WPF, the Brazilian Igor ‘Federal’ Trafane, said that the creation of the World Poker Federation is the result of a continuous effort over many years, which resulted in the acceptance of IMSA.
