Early years in online poker

Loeliger was born on January 4, 1995, according to PokerListings, and lives in Switzerland. [14] His rise is documented in unusual detail because he wrote about it himself: in 2013 he started a thread on the TwoPlusTwo forum about climbing from $10NL to $100NL with a $240 bankroll. [4]

PokerNews later noted that it took him four years to reach the highest stakes. In August 2017, when he was 22, he was already playing $200/$400 cash games, after mainly playing $10/$20 with occasional $25/$50 games little more than a year earlier. [4] For several years he played under his screen name only. His real name became public in 2017, and his first appearance under it came at the PokerStars Championship Barcelona €50,000 Super High Roller. Asked about losing his anonymity, he told PokerNews: “I mean, it has to happen at some point. There’s nothing I can do about it.” [4]

High-stakes cash games

Loeliger’s main game is No-Limit Hold’em, above all short-handed. “It’s definitely what is the most fun to me in poker, playing three-handed games at the top,” he said in 2017, describing regular battles with players such as “OtB_RedBaron” as “very fun”. [4]

In 2018 he led the PokerStars high-stakes cash game rankings. At the end of March PokerNews reported a $137,380 pot he won from Timofey “Trueteller” Kuznetsov at $200/$400 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Max. [5] By mid-April his profit for the year stood at $699,973 over 31,264 hands, more than the next two players, James “JayP-AA” Park and Alexander “joiso” Kostritsyn, combined, with an all-time profit of $1,330,554 according to the tracking data PokerNews cited. [6] He has since also played the live Triton cash games; in 2020 Jonathan Little analyzed for PokerNews a €2,000/€4,000 hand in which Loeliger called a €144,000 river bet from Dan Cates with a straight. [10]

Move into tournaments

Tournaments were a side activity at first. “I used to play the occasional Sunday. My roommate plays tournaments for a living,” he said in 2017, adding: “I’m feeling very, very comfortable in my tournaments. It’s not a big transition.” [4] His early live record consisted of three cashes in 2015 and 2016 worth $85,404, one of them a win in a UKIPT High Roller in London for £55,650. [5] Online, in March 2018, he finished second in the PokerStars High Rollers $10,300 Progressive KO event behind Mustapha Kanit for $143,131 and won a $1,050 Hyper-Turbo for $106,645. [5]
