The BSOP Millions, known as the grand finale of the Brazilian poker calendar, attracted over 26,000 entries from 42 countries and all Brazilian states, further demonstrating the global reach and appeal of poker as a sport. Players competed in events with buy-ins ranging from R$500 to R$250,000, including the groundbreaking The Legends tournament. With a buy-in of R$250,000, this high-stakes event made history by awarding Leandro Zavodini the largest single prize ever seen in the series: R$3.5 million.

Celebrating Accessibility and Excellence
One of the BSOP’s defining characteristics is its openness, welcoming amateur players to compete alongside some of the world’s best. This inclusivity is a hallmark of poker’s identity as a mind sport—where skill and strategy take precedence over chance.

Devanir Campos, CEO of the BSOP, celebrated this year’s achievements, stating:
“From R$46 million in prizes in 2022 to nearly R$100 million this year, the growth of poker in Brazil is extraordinary. It underscores the rising status of poker as a sport of skill and a thriving global community. The future of poker in Brazil looks brighter than ever, and 2025 promises to be historic.”

WPF Announcement Highlights a Historic Moment
Amid the excitement of the BSOP Millions, the World Poker Federation (WPF) made a historic announcement: poker’s definitive recognition as a mind sport by the International Mind Sports Association (IMSA). This milestone, celebrated with players and stakeholders during the event, underscores the intellectual depth of poker and its status as a global sport.

Poker is a Mind Sport

“The BSOP was the perfect stage to celebrate this achievement with the community that has supported poker’s growth for decades,” said Leonardo Cavarge, CEO of the WPF. “This recognition by IMSA solidifies poker’s position among the world’s most respected strategic disciplines.”

Looking Ahead
The 2025 BSOP season is set to begin from February 6 to 11 at Costa do Sauípe, Bahia, promising another thrilling chapter for the Brazilian poker scene.
