Igor Trafane, was chosen to be the first president of the WPF and said: “One of the historic demands of our category was for poker to be recognized worldwide as a sport. It took many years of negotiation and work to have a World Poker Federation and for it to be officially recognized by IMSA”.
“I consider this validation as the closing of a 15-year cycle of work and the beginning of a new journey. This recognition brings peace of mind to players that they are playing a sport; brings security to businesspeople in the sector, showing that it is a legitimate activity; and brings stability to thousands of workers in this segment, who earn their livelihood from our activity”, adds Trafane.
