The IMSA (International Mind Sports Association) has officially recognized poker as a “mind sport”. With the support of PokerStars, Suprema Poker and H2 Clube, the WPF (World Poker Federation) sought this endorsement because it believes that this will provide better protection for the sport and provide better opportunities for development.
Poker joins other mind sports, such as chess and eSports, which are already recognized by IMSA. These sports are so-called because, in addition to having many characteristics in common with traditional sports, they also require intellectual ability to compete.
The announcement of the recognition took place during the “BSOP Millions 2024”, the largest poker event in Latin America. Some games were stopped so that everyone could hear the news and celebrate.
