Serina Liu is an algorithm engineer and national team player whose unique path bridges the worlds of technology and poker. A graduate of National Taiwan University, she now works at one of the world’s leading IC design houses as an algorithm engineer. With six years of poker experience, Serina has established herself as both a respected competitor and a mentor.

She has proudly represented Chinese Taipei as part of the IFMP National Team, winning a silver medal at the 2019 Asian Nations Cup, followed by a team gold medal and an individual bronze medal at the 2023 Asian Nations Cup. Beyond the tables, she has also served as a Texas Hold’em instructor at National Taiwan University, helping to inspire the next generation of players. 

For Serina, both engineering and poker demand clarity of thought and strong logical reasoning. Engineers must dissect complex problems to find solutions, while poker players rely on logic to deduce opponents’ ranges and calculate probabilities. She sees these two identities as deeply connected, and through the constant shift between them, she continues to sharpen her analytical skills while embracing the creativity and resilience the game requires.

What is the importance of poker in your life?
“Poker has become an essential part of how I challenge myself and grow. It taught me discipline, patience, and the value of decision-making under pressure. Representing my country on the international stage has been one of the proudest experiences of my life, and it showed me how poker can unite players across cultures. For me, the game is not just about results — it’s about sharpening my mind, building confidence, and finding a community that shares the same passion.”

In your opinion, what is the importance of the Women’s Committee?
“The Women’s Committee is important because it ensures that women feel represented, supported, and empowered in poker. For me, as both an engineer and a player, it also proves through logic and results that women can excel at the highest levels of the game. More importantly, the Committee builds confidence, creates opportunities, and strengthens the community, allowing more women to sit at the table with courage and pride — and to continue writing our own chapter in the story of poker.”
